How to Build a Hydroponic System – Got interested in hydroponic gardening? For you as beginner, the very first step to build up your first hydroponic garden is choosing a system that best suitable for your needs. Some other important factors to take into account will include the space you have, type and number of plants you want to grow, cost, and time you have to spend for maintaining the system.

For first experience of hydroponic growing, there are three most basic system recommendations, namely Wick, Water Culture and Ebb & Flow. Of course you have to follow the instructions you obtain from trustable sources. You can go to nearby or online hydroponics stores to buy all the things you need. Or, you can make your own hand-made hydroponic system by using any used things and equipment around your resident.

Wick Systems are passive because there are or they have no moving parts. This system uses a reservoir with water and nutrients and above it there is a container contained with medium for planting. These two containers are connected by a wick which has a capillary action and function of drawing the nutrient-filled water up into the growing medium where this solution is happily absorbed by the plants. Mostly this system works extremely well with micro greens, herbs, and peppers.

Another highly easy system to set up is called Water Culture, especially for small scale gardening. The basic thing in this system is that the plant roots are totally immersed in a nutrient solution. Plants are put into a Styrofoam platform, or tray, that placed rightly on the top of a reservoir. In addition, a pump is mounted to the reservoir to distribute oxygen to the roots. This system is ideally suited for water-hungry plants, such as lettuce and spinach, but not for more long-term plants such as tomatoes.

Ebb and Flow system works system works in the process of flooding the growing medium with solution and then draining it back into the reservoir. For this How to Build a Hydroponic System process, you have to add a submergible pump with a timer. By employing this timer, you can customize the watering schedule according to your plant’s size, number of plants, temperature, humidity, etc.
